Unlocking Innovation: A Guide to Invention Convention Americas 2024

ICW is organized by the Henry Ford Museum in the United States and is open to K-12 students around the world. It combines the internationally advanced STEMIE education concept (STEM + invention + entrepreneurship) to cultivate students' interdisciplinary comprehensive application abilities, innovative thinking, problem-solving abilities and expression skills. ICW pays more attention to the process and consciousness of invention than to complex technology, and encourages young people to be keenly aware of the needs in the real world, discover problems, define problems, and use inventions and creations to solve problems. More than 120,000 students participate in ICW every year, covering 10 countries and 4 continents around the world. It has been held for more than 40 years. Only 1% of outstanding students can win the award. The award is highly recognized by the world's top universities such as MIT and Georgia Institute of Technology. ! And,Invention Convention Americas, or ICA for short, is the culminating program for top young inventors from national programs in Mexico and the United States. At Americas, selected finalists from these programs are brought together virtually to continue their invention journey by meeting other inventors and competing for awards and cash prizes. To participate, invited students are required to submit a video presentation of their invention, a prototype, an inventor's logbook showing the journey of their invention process and a poster board highlighting key points of the invention process.

ICA Eligibility

The Promotion is open only to K-12+ students from the below affiliates who qualified in their national event and received an invite to the Invention Convention Americas 2024 presented by
Raytheon Technologies competition.

ICA Entry Timeline

  • June 07th
    Registration opens. Invention Convention Americas participation is by invitation only.
  • July 17th
    Americas student registration closes.
  • July 22nd
    Online judging (asynchronous) begins.
  • July 29th
    Virtual (live Q and A) judging begins.
  • August 09th
    AmericasX Virtual Student Engagement Opportunity.
  • August 22nd
    Virtual Awards Ceremony.

ICA Entry Method

The Promotion registration fee is (fifty) $50 USD per student and includes Americas apparel , backpack, finalist certificate and access to AmericasX (for details on AmericasX, go to https://inventionconvention.org/Americas/). Students can only access the registration page using the link that will be sent to them by their National Affiliate. If you have not received your link, please contact your National Affiliate during the Contest Entry Period to gain access to the registration form and to upload your Affiliate’s national event qualifying Invention Convention project. Complete the registration form with your true and correct information in the required fields (required fields include, Parent Full Page 2 of 9 Name, Parent Phone, Parent Email, Gender, Ethnicity, Grade, Age of Inventor, Picture of student, Shirt Size, Primary Language, Other Language(s), Affiliate Name, School Name). Additionally, you will be required to provide the following information of your Affiliate National event qualifying Invention Convention project to complete your Entry:

  • Team Project (Y/N)
  • Project Title
  • Project Description

ICA evaluation standards(Reference 2023)

The online judges, representing various fields and industries, will score all Entries based on the below process.

  • K-2 inventions will be scored during online judging only using the K-2 rubric below.
  • 3-12+ inventions will be scored during online judging and then during a separate live Q&A session with judges using the 3-12+ rubric.
  • Overall scores will be used to determine Grade Band Winners.
  • A percentage-based score will be used to determine Best in Show.

by the entrant.

ICA Award Setting

A total of thirteen (13 prizes will be awarded during the Promotion.

Grade Band Awards (15):

Three (3) winners from each grade band (K-5, 6-8, 9-11, and 12+) (4 grade bands) will be chosen as winners of one (1) of the following prizes:

  • 1st Place: $500 per team member, trophy, Personalized Certificate
  • 2nd Place: $300 per team member, a 2nd place medal, Personalized Certificate
  • 3rd Place: $200 per team member, 3rd place medal, Personalized Certificate

Approximate Retail Value (“ARV”) of all Grade Band Awards is $5,000-$20,000

Best Of Show Awards (1):

  • Best in Show Award Presented by Raytheon Technologies: $1,000.00 per team member, Trophy, Personalized Certificate
  • The ARV of all Best of Show Award Prizes is $1,000-$4,000
  • The ARV of all Promotion Prizes is $6,000-$24,000
