This Regeneron ISEF Award-Winning Project is committed to developing and verifying an innovative, low-cost, and highly reliable hydrogen sensor to meet the growing demand for hydrogen economy and improve the safety of hydrogen storage and use. This sensor uses gas-induced chromic technology, which can cause color changes when exposed to hydrogen, thereby achieving rapid detection without power supply.

The project team designed a sensor structure consisting of WO3-Pd film, photodiode, microcontroller, etc., and carried out prototype assembly, coding, testing and experimental verification. The final result is a hydrogen detection sensor that can respond quickly within 30 seconds, which not only provides a strong guarantee for the safe application of hydrogen, but also lays a solid foundation for promoting the further development of the hydrogen economy.
