To commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the 2026 NHD theme focuses on revolutions, reactions, and reforms throughout history.

The boundaries between these concepts are often fluid. Revolutions and reforms typically arise as responses to existing ideas, events, or conditions. In turn, these movements provoke reactions—creating a historical domino effect, where one transformation leads to another.

Students are encouraged to explore how these forces interact, overlap, and reshape societies across time.

1. Eligibility

NHD is open to students in Grades 6–12, divided into two divisions:

• Junior Division: Grades 6–8
• Senior Division: Grades 9–12

In some regions, students in Grades 4–5 may participate through affiliate sponsorships. Eligibility must be confirmed with local coordinators.

2. Project Categories

Students may choose from five project formats:

Only the Paper category requires individual participation. All other categories allow individual or group entries.

(All team members must be in Grade 6 or above; members do not need to be in the same grade.)
