  • Project Introduction
This project uses new open source multi-sensor remote sensing technology (including multispectral, synthetic aperture radar and interferometric SAR) to monitor the restoration of Irish peatlands.
Through multi-sensor observations at six test sites with different levels of degradation, the research team successfully identified changes in vegetation, moisture content, and surface movement, providing a comprehensive and cost-effective monitoring method for peatland restoration.
This technology is expected to help peatland restoration efforts around the world and support countries in achieving their emission reduction and biodiversity conservation goals.

Regeneron ISEF 2024 ENEV First Award-Analysis

This Regeneron ISEF Award-Winning Project aims to develop an effective peatland detection method through mathematical analysis of satellite data. Among them, the project team innovatively adopted INSAR synthetic aperture radar interferometry technology, which can accurately monitor small surface deformations, such as subsidence or uplift, by comparing SAR data at different time points, thereby providing key information for changes in the state of peatlands. At the same time, the project also combines multispectral image extraction technology, converts data through normalized difference index, and then compares and analyzes with SAR data, further improving the accuracy and reliability of detection.
The main features of the project are reflected in its grand application perspective and advanced data processing technology. It not only focuses on peatland detection in nature, which helps humans better understand and grasp environmental conditions but also demonstrates a high degree of technical strength in data processing and fusion, making the processing results more credible. This interdisciplinary technical integration and method innovation are of great significance to environmental monitoring and protection and are expected to provide a scientific basis for decision-making in related fields.

As for the biological gene sequencing mentioned, although it is not directly related to this project, sequencing genes is also a highly complex and precise task. It involves in-depth analysis of biological genetic information and is an important part of modern biological research. However, in the analysis and interpretation of this project, we mainly focus on peatland detection.

We have deeply analyzed the highlights and analysis of the Regeneron ISEF 2024 ENEV First Award project, and have a deeper understanding of cutting-edge research in the field of environmental engineering. Next, let's focus on another project that excels in microbiology: Regeneron ISEF 2024 MCRO First Award.
